Damn full quote wouldn't fit in the Topic Description.

Anyway, I know a few of us here watch it, and I need to talk about the first ep of S3!

Eeepp!

This show just gets better and better. The funeral scene was brilliant, love the slicing in between Kimber and Julie leaving, poor Momma!, unsure about Dr Quentin and yay for the lack of Matt scenes (don't like him at all).

Has anyone bought S1 or S2 on DVD yet?
Veda
Oh yes, I very much enjoy Nip/Tuck.

I didn't really understand the detective woman. Hello innapropriate behavior! Is she really innappropriate or is she trying to using sex to get Sean to confide in her about the crime? I hope this wasn't a bad plot twist to just bring another girl into Sean's life.

I haven't seen the DVDs. I'm debating renting them because I've only seen seasons 1 and 2 in re-runs and they were all out of order. I also have heard some good things about the extra features.

So are you getting this at the same time as the US or are you seeing it through other means?

You are funny! S2 only finished the other week here.

Other means rule!!
Veda
This season is amazing so far! I really liked the last episode. They are just packing so much stuff into each episode it feels like so much is happening.

I think Matt looks better with the shaved head. Nalian and I always joke that he looks like Michael Jackson. Not sure if it is the actor, or the way they do his makeup making him look so pale with the bright pink lips... eek. I'm really glad that he got what was coming to him after beating up the transgendered woman. Hard scene to watch but that's the point.

Also, I really liked the scene with Julia and Grandma smoking Matt's pot. It's nice to see them finally bonding over something and getting along. Also, it is always funny to see conservative parent types doing drugs.
Ginni

As do Fiona and I. He's creepy and inappropriate. I don't like him at all. If he was my kid, I'd have booted him so far up the arse, he'd have no problem singing like MJ either.
BJC
Boy, was that one violent and depressing episode, aside from the amusing pot smoking scenes.

I've never ever liked Matt.
BJC
My theory now is that Costa is the Carver.
Veda
yes, yes - that is looking quite possible.
BJC
Heh, Joan Rivers cracks me up.

Michael Mancini!!!
Nalian
Ok that was really gross. I wonder what kind of fallout they're going to have when someone figures out what is in their miracle face mask? Also - don't they have to disclose that its only for use on the face - not anywhere else??

BLEH
Ginni
Is Costa the new doctor guy? I've had that theory for *weeks* now.

I don't know where y'all are up to in the US, but here in the UK, we just had the episode where Christian got arrested for being the Carver. I'm now even MORE convinced that he's the guy. I knew that it had to be someone related to Christian that was the latest victim, but I was still shocked when it was McGraw.

As for Matt? Still hate him, still cheered when Sean broke his nose again, still glad that he's hardly ever on the show, and especially glad that the T-girls got him. Yay for T-girls peeing on him!!
BJC
Ginni, the UK is about 3 - 4 eps behind the States.

Costa needs to go bye-bye's now, don't like his character at all.
Veda
Agreed - even if he's not the carver he is creepy and useless. I'm not really sure what episode I saw last - I think I am two behind. But it was interesting to see in the Joan Rivers episode the new-Christian being the responsible one and Costa being the old-Christian with his crazy ways.
BJC
Ahh, so you haven't seen the creepy Julia and Matt replacement family. Very creepy storyline, Sean is a bit nuts.

Apparently we will find out in ep 15 who the carver is.
Veda
I think I just saw the Julia and Matt replacement family episode. The one where Anne Heche and son stay with Christian? That was a little weird. I am still too creeped out by Costa. The way he was looking at Julia when they were dancing? Creepy! And I was really bothered by the scene where Julia wakes up with Costa in her apartment in the morning and doesn't remember how she got there. I'm not sure if the writers were trying to make it look like there was foul play from Costa or not, but it made me uncomfortable.
Ginni
I just saw FrankenLaura. Blech.

Very messed up. And Sean? Help yourself to Matt's education fund. He sure as hell ain't gonna use it. Except to buy drugs.
Veda
Aaaaah. Apparently Joely Richardson (Julia) and John Hensley (Matt) used to date!!!

Ew.
Ginni
Did you not know that? Oh yeah - we'd spend most of the show icking about the oedipus of it all. BLACH.

And, just saw the second Joan Rivers episode with the miracle face cream stuff. Hee!
BJC
Yeah, I thought that was old news. Gross.

How hilarious was the wedding cake tasting scene? Glad those two have made up. Now all they gotta do is get ride of Costa.

Size 0? Size 0? Give.me.a.break.
Veda
No one tells me the gossip :(
BJC
What a sadistic, hateful episode.
Ginni
Just seen the replacement Family episode with Anne Heche. How very odd. But I must say I'd have knocked Matt's teeth out if he spoke to me like that.

And also? Money on Costa having rufied Julia. She was talking about sore thighs? I never get sore thighs from dancing - I'm just sayin'.
Veda
I hope things lighten up on the show pretty soon, I'm not sure how much more of this I can watch. The last episode I saw was the "Abby Mays" episode. I don't think there was a single upbeat thing going on in the episode. I'm not sure that "dark" is the right word here but I'm not sure how else to describe it. Depressing? Pushing too many buttons/crossing too many of my comfort lines? Maybe that is the point. How far can they go and have people still watch?

Ginni - are you spoiler free?
Ginni
I was until after I posted last night, though all I have found thus far is a brief episode synopsis.

It is disturbing. I essentially went so I could find out what episode number I'm on and how many till episode 15 when we find out who the Carver is, but ended up trolling for spoilers.

I'm pretty unspoiled, but I know the gist of about the next 4 or 5 episodes. I don't mind being spoiled, I don't think.
BJC
Warning Ginni - end of season spoilers below!

So Costa as the carver was obvious, but didn't see the Kit thing at all.

I thought the damage done to Kimber would have looked worse, and how quick was that recovery time?

So, what do we all think is wrong with Julia's baby?

I liked how they thought Liz was the carver because of the sperm cream. Heh.
Nalian
Yeah he was obvious - but if they'd had someone out of left field it would have sucked too. The Kit thing was weird.

The whole ending felt off, and like they were just trying to wrap things up too much. They left a lot of huuuuge gaps. When did they go up to Maine? What happened with Ariel's dad? how much time had passed when they were having the family meal? Why no mention of Quentin's body going missing?

Hopefully some of it is taken care of by the new episodes whenever they start..
Veda
Yeah - I agree with everything above. The last half of the entire season was just not enjoyable. Bring back the interesting patient plot lines!

Oh oh, I unintentionally came across a season 4 spoiler...

According to an interview in Curve Magazine with the actress, Gina turns gay in season 4. The whole article was interviewing her and asking how she felt playing a lesbian, so I'm assuming it is legit. They speculated that she has an affair with Julia, although giving the ending of season 3 I'm not sure if that is true.

Looks like season 4 doesn't start until the Fall of 2006. I wonder why they did such a short season. Are we supposed to think they're cool like the HBO/Showtime shows?
Ginni
Hooray for spoilers! I was getting tiiiiiiiiiiiired of knowing too much.

I have to say, I called the Kimber kidnap from the moment that she spoke to 'Sean' when he knocked on the door of the church ready to walk her down the aisle. I'm getting far too good at plotting this show, but it's still really good to watch, since I never know if I'm right or not.

Also, I continue to hate Matt and his psycho new girlfriend. And I want to punch Julia in the head too.
Ananda
Ok, as usual, I'm watching this show long after the rest of the civilized world, so please excuse the fact that I haven't read the whole thread and can't really connect this to any of your discussions. I don't even know who the Carver is yet, although, like everyone, I've pinned Quentin as the most likely suspect. Maybe too likely.... Anyway, this is maybe my favorite show currently on tv, and it is certainly the only show that actually makes me gasp with astonishment (and, yes, often times disgust.) I cannot believe it is on FX, and not HBO, but I wouldn't have them change a thing. I can't think of another show that is able to make its characters as unlikable as these sometimes are, but yet constantly intriguing and usually sympathetic (although not always, and that's interesting too.) My biggest complaint about the season I'm watching now is that Roma Maffia has been criminally underused (and considering she's the only other viable Carver suspect, that worries the bejeezus out of me.) It's rare nowadays that a scene in a tv show sticks with me long after I've watched it. The scene in Weeds where Nancy watches her and her husbands' sex tape...and the scene in the second (?) season of Nip/Tuck when Liz tells Christian that she wanted him to be her sperm donor so her child would have one attractive parent. Those are the only two in recent memory. Go Roma Maffia!

I'm choosing to post now because I'm watching the episode where Julia's mom's plane crashes, and something unexpected happened. To be honest, I wasn't thinking it was a particularly great episode; the triage environment seemed to be deadening a lot of the usual emotion and nuanced drama, and I felt like I was just watching an episode of ER. In addition, I found the GoodMom/BadMom parallels to be way heavy-handed for this show. I almost never have to roll my eyes and say "We. Get. It." during an episode of N/T. Julia has always been my least favorite character (yes, even less than Matt), and I'm the least invested in her story. But, somehow when she started cutting into that burn victim, I was moved. Seeing her, finally, be the one holding the knife, living out her destiny in a bizarre way, I actually started to feel for a character I never even bothered to pay much attention to.

I freaking love this show!

Oh, and I have thought Matt was looking like MJ ever since his hair started getting long! So glad I'm not the only one.
Veda
Agreed, Ananda, this does feel more like an HBO type show than FX. Not only because of the adult storylines but the whole structure of the episodes. I suppose that I am glad it's not on HBO though because then we would probably be seeing more of Julian McMahon then just his naked ass.

Season 4 premiere discussion below...

The premiere really didn't do much for me. I think it did have it's redeeming moments. It will be interesting to see Sean and Julia deal with the baby being electrodactyly. I thought the scene where Julia was having lunch with the woman who was also electrodactyly was a very moving scene and well done. You could see her discomfort but that she was really trying to learn and understand. I'm also interested in Christian's story line where he is questioning his sexuality. The storyline could either be touching as we learn more about him and his struggles or it could get old really fast as we see him self destruct (even more than he already has) over it all. Unfortunately, I have a feeling it will be the latter.

I didn't get the closing scene where Christian was having sex with the therapist. Why? I just don't buy that every woman he comes into contact with wants to have sex with him. Especially, someone interacting with him as a professional. What gives?

The previews for the season look really annoying. Oh boy, another affair? Drama surrounding the practice, how clever. When are we going to tie up the loose ends? Is the whole carver storyline really done and over with? What's going on with Matt? Ananada brought up Liz and the sperm donation thng, wasn't that two seasons ago? What happened with it? Where are things going with the spa? Maybe these things will be coming up and they just didn't fit in the previews. It just seems like too much is being thrown into the story and there's not enough time to wrap it all up.
Ananda
I enjoyed the premiere. I think this show likes to reinvent itself a bit each year. Certainly some storylines carry over, but they never have any problem taking a line or two to cut the stuff that isn't working. Personally I hope "Gina's buying Julia's stock" is the last we ever hear of the spa. I could not care less about that plot line (this probably springs from my utter disinterest in Julia as a person.) I like that they're making the marriage between Christian and Sean text, because that really is the focus of the show when it's at its best. My particular tv fetish is close platonic relationships between men (witness my Sports Night infatuation). These two guys have crazy good chemistry, though, and I like seeing Christian question himself in this way. I don't think for a minute that they'll actually make their main character gay, although I have heard about a shower scene with Mario Lopez at some point in the season. Yes, that's the guy from Saved By the Bell. It will be interesting to see where they'll take it, though, and to what degree Christian will open himself up to the idea. Regardless of his sexuality, it's possible that Sean is the love of his life.

The scenes with the mother and daughter made me really uncomfortable; it was like watching a really dirty joke or something. I was happy when even Christian decided it was too much. How odd was that montage, too? Christian with the mother and daughter/Sean making love to his pregnant wife. This show has the weirdest sense of humor. The sex with the therapist thing kind of annoyed me - I agree, there should be some women who are immune to Christian's charms (of course, the wife of the older man sort of provided that counterpoint). Basically, though, the point was that Christian was doing his trademark thing - exerting his power over women - and it wasn't really doing much for him. Unfortunately, if the idea of the season is to have him pursue the wife, simply because she said no, that is hopelessly boring. Let's not got there, ok show?
Ananda
I hate you Julia. You totally, totally suck. Sean, you a little bit too. What, they have one child with no obvious physical or emotional disabilities, and they just must screw her up too? I actually was very not pleased with this storyline, because they were so obviously projecting. I thought both of them were intelligent enough to at least realize that's what they were doing, and stop torturing their sweet daughter who was clearly just trying to deal. And how blessed they should feel to have a child who wants to understand her brother's situation, rather than shun him or feel embarrassed! Bad parenting in the McNamara household reaches hertofore unrealized heights.

And then all that talk about half-baked and fully-baked children (that, combined with them naming the baby Connor gave me total Buffy-verse flashbacks), and not a mention of Annie. They suck!

Yikes! I knew the second Kimber denied doing yoga that she was a Scientologist (possibly because I just finished watching the South Park Scientology episode.) I was hoping that the respect I had begun to have for her might grow this season, but that is obviously not going to be the case. I don't know how I feel about Julia giving Matt money; I guess it's true that sometimes you have to take your moments of grace where you can find them, and if Matt can find some peace through this, ok. But at the end of the day, Scientology is nuts! The last thing Matt needs is another thing in his life that's nuts.
Veda
While I obviously agree that scientology is nuts, I did start agreeing with Julia's argument in the end. Sure, it's a cult, but maybe it's better to be in a cult where you're happy and joyful then the alternative.
lejo
What? Sane and misreable like the rest of us?

I'm actually really excited to Scientology actually addressed in fiction. It's such a huge aspect of Hollywood these days and very frustrating to be completely cut out of the fictional media except as a punchline.

On the other hand, this show has a tendancy to take everything to ridiculous levels of bizarness.

Never had a choice? Bullshit! I hate spastic, weak woe-is-me-ism in any form and even more so when you pay for the privelage. Man up and walk the line, Matt. You're not impressing anyone.
Ananda
QUOTE

Have you heard of Scientology? It's already there. I can't wait for Matt to hear about Zeno and the volcano alien-spirits. He actually tends to at least see the logic in bad situations, even if he continues to act like a jerk. I'll be interested in his reaction.
Veda

From the way Julia was talking I got the impression they were concerned that he may be suicidal.
lejo
Meh, he's always been a snotty, selfish brat. Too self-involved to really kill himself.

Anyhoot, the new Boss Lady is a Darcy Girl. That's pretty cool, too.

Oh, and I was on the Scientology is insane and dangerous train from way back. I actually saw an indoctrination film strip back in '02. (Freaked us out so bad we ran out the Fire Exit) Scary, creepy, manipulative stuff. Beware, weak-willed and vulnerable people. Beware.
BJC
This show just gets better and better.

At first I thought Michelle and the pimp lady were running some big con on Christian, my draw dropped when I realised that it's not sex they are selling but they are the organ-nappers!
Ananda
QUOTE

Wow, lejo, you were spot on there. Except Darcy didn't go through all of this "modelling agency" nonsense. Then again, none of her girls were working J.R. Ewing, so points for James.

God, I hope Peter Dinklage turns out be be secretly evil or something. Wise Dwarf is so beneath his talent and intensity as an actor. Wise Dwarf Who Provides Sexual Healing to Depressed Mom (Who is Both Repulsed by His Differentness and Attracted by His Tenderness) would not be much better, so let's avoid that tired old song, ok?

I like Sean going round the bend. Of all of the characters, I think he's the most entertaining when he lets his world spiral into craziness. I don't like Christian manipulating Michelle into having sex with him. For one thing, she bores me. And for another, his whole surgery-foreplay thing was wrong, even for him. I kept expecting Nurse Linda to say enough is enough and go get a job working for Mario Lopez.
lejo
Well, I AM a huge nerd.

Dude, Lopez was frackin' cut! (I feel justified saying that now that Veronica Mars says it) Did the shower scene live up to your expectations? What ever happend to the is/n't he gay theme they'd set up?

I find Michelle not only boring, but not really that attractive. With Kimber, I kinda got the "She's SO hot" vibe. Not with her. Also, how'd we go from blackmailed sex to a secret romance? And Christian, honestly, Love? He's far to damaged to actually love anyone. Maybe Sean and Matt, probably Julia, as well.

I was surprised that they were the organ harvesters. Should've called that from a mile back. My powers grow weak.
Ananda
Yikes. You guys are blowing my mind. I think I missed an episode.

The shower scene, by the way, was very misleading. Bad spoiler. Not that I was hoping for that pairing, but I find Christian's exploration of his sexuality more interesting than his exploration of his waistline.
Veda
I feel like this show is such a train wreck. Everything is so unbelieveable and ridiculous I don't know what to say. The blackmail sex really bothered me - I don't understand why Christian wants Michelle that badly, it doesn't really make sense.
Ananda
Well, it's all about power with him, right? So sayeth Brooke Shields. I'm sure that's what it was here. She's a woman who has power over him - she has power over his livelihood. There is no way that is going to fly with Christian, so he finds a way to regain his alpha dog position. Pretty despicable, but par for Christian's twisted course.
Ananda
Ok, posting after myself to say what I hoped I'd never say: this show isn't so good anymore. I know last season wasn't perfect, but I thought they'd built up all of this really interesting character stuff, with lots of bizarre style and black-hole humor. Kimber and Christian were in love in a way that felt real to me; not all hearts and flowers and "let's be together forever". There was a lot of selfishness and insecurity and pain mixed in with what they felt, but they understood eachother in a way. Who is this Michelle person? No, really, who is she? Why does Christian care for her? Does she have any personality traits? For a little while she was bitchy, but now she's all victim-y, poor me. And that's it. I'm fine with him wanting to have sex with her, but all of this love talk and "stay the night" is just coming out of nowhere. I figure she's working some sort of angle on him, which explains her end, but his character is going out with a sputter.

Liz is seduced by a beautiful woman when she never believed she could attract one, but it turns out that woman just used her for her organs, and Liz is all c'est la vie about it? This is a woman so deeply insecure about her appearance that she was going to have Christian's baby just so that the kid wouldn't look like her, and that's her entire response to that incredibly invasive and humiliating violation? Gah?

Sean's downward spiral still feels pretty much on track for this show, and I liked the resolution to the night nurse storyline, if only because another round of blackmail is not nearly as damaging to Sean as his own guilt. I think it's interesting that the tattoo guy keeps appearing; it almost seems like Sean might be suffering from some post-traumatic stress, but I guess it's hard to tell just how real these figures are to him. Nice to see Megan be remembered, too.

All in all, though, I feel like Nip/Tuck keeps having characters make really interesting statements or actions, but then completely invalidates them by turning that character into a mockery, someone who couldn't possibly be taken seriously. I don't like that.
Nalian
I have stopped watching Nip/Tuck after last weeks episode (with matt moving out/sean going on a spending spree, etc). I watch shows because I care about the characters..but there is no one there to care about anymore.
BJC
Awwww, poor Mrs Grubman.
Ananda
Gag me. Seriously, stick your finger down my throat and cause me to vomit, because that would be a more pleasurable experience than watching what used to be one of my "can't miss" shows. Christian is, generally, a fairly despicable person. I have a very hard time believing he would do that to Kimber, but it's not completely impossible. But to have him treat her that way because of that pointless Michelle person, that really just does it for me. There is absolutely nothing interesting about Michelle. The idea that she is this Helen of Troy character is just laughable, and her whole, "Oh, poor me" schtick is offensive and dumb.
BJC
Those are some good looking old folks. Very clever episode.
BJC
Hmm, how to make Danny Strong look even smaller than he is in real life - stand him right next to Julian McMahon.

Pretty solid season finale, I was dissapointed we didn't get to see the Michelle/Christian breakup on screen - I hated her.

So, Hollywood's next....
ejg25
Who did Danny Strong play on the show?
