Literally, as it happens, as the two finalists are going to be performing the famous routine...
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Some of the celebs were better than I expected, whilst some weren't quite so good! And the right person left, I have to say!
Kelly Holmes wasn't quite as good as I'd hoped, but I was amused to see that she was training at the Arena in Nottingham! I must have been slightly nerve-wracking to be learning with T&D on their 'home turf' so to speak.
Bonnie Langford was pretty good - I winced at the shot of her bashing her head on the ice, but the 'ouch, but lets get on' attitude impressed. And the routine was good. You can tell she's a dancer.
Likewise, John Barrowman's dance/musical theatre background probably helped him! My favourite routine of the night, and not just because it was him! It was fun, well performed and a catchy piece of music. I've cuaght myself humming constantly since then. Wasn't terribly sure about his outfit though. And he came across really well when consoling his partner (in practise) when she was upset at the thought she'd hurt his back. Bless. He looks like a good hugger.
I hope I'm not going to be the only one watching.

Ooh, I saw Bonnie's bump on some other show and it looked very sore! She's looking good these days.
I so loved Torvill & Dean back in the day.

Me too!
Mind you, I may be ever so slightly biased... I did point out their costumes when we were at the Castle didn't I?
Christopher has a really odd accent now - its a mix of Nottingham and sort-of american. It makes me snicker.

Anybody else watching?
I did! And applauded (whilst snickering) John's routine. It was great fun. Not sure about the outfits though!
So glad that Andy has gone - it was the fairest result!

Oh, yeah! Actually my tape missed the results, so that's good to know. He was not only rubbish but seemed chippy.
The show is VERY derivative of SCD. And there are too many people - five judges, two hosts, two coaches and a commentator, is all that really necessary? I don't think Philip Schofield is very good as a host and who's the blonde girl, Cat Deeley Lite? Torville and Dean are still completely awesome though (but why has she never managed to get a flattering hairstyle?).
Captain Jack was splendid! Loved the Amarillo routine. Isn't it odd that the two best people are stars from musicals? And that they have both been Doctor Who companions?
Have they mentioned that David Seaman has done ice dancing before? Or that Martin from Corrie looks exactly like Christopher Dean? And is it just me who finds it bizarre that Tainted Love is now suitable for an early evening light entertainment ITV show?
I have many questions, apparently.

You'd have missed a really sweet (And a very Capatain Jack) moment then. When the two that were saved skated back over to the rest of the couples, JB lent down, helped her up the step, and kissed her hand. I may have gone 'awwwww'.
Have you noticed the titles use exactly the same font as SCD? I noticed this on saturday. How cheeky can you get?
re: your questions
1 - Far too many people. And Judge number three (didn't he do the Graham Norton Dance Fever show? Yet more crossing over...) can go right now. I don't mind criticism about the dancing, but the personal attacks are a bit much. I know Craig was mean, but I can't remember him being that vicious, and it was because he was passionate about dance, not to 'score points'.
Keep Torville and Dean, naturally.
2 - Better hosts are required. Not sure who, but those two are annoying. Especially the girl - at least Phillip has left over fondness for me from his stint in the BBC broom cupboard. And her dresses are nowhere near as fab as Tess's!
3 - I'm not sure why she never got a good hair style. It's strange.
4 - The fact that the best two people are from Musicals as a background is not too suprising. They can dance when not on ice, so they have certain aspects of the skills they need - they just have to translate it onto the ice. And they'd certainly be used to the type of projecting those routines require!
I want JB to win - I think he's fabulous. And such a sweetie! And I love the Dr Who link for both him and Bonnie. (wouldn't it be great to see them do a routine together?)
5 - Yes they did mention that he's skated before "an appearance pn a BBC ice-skating programme' I beleive they said. He also had tryouts for Ice-hockey as a kid! I'm sure he was a late replacement, which I suppose is why they went for someone who a little bit of experience.
6 - I'd never noticed that before, but now you mention it, he is uncannily like a brunette version of Chris
7 - Not the only one. Mind you, they played it on DR Who as well...
OOh, I'm so glad you like it! I love having someone to discuss my guilty pleasure with!

David Seaman always seems to be a late replacement. I suspect he goes ice skating as a hobby, perhaps with his family or something.
Agreed, rude judge (no idea of names apart from Robin Cousins, who I remember fondly from his skating days & I didn't watch Dance Fever) goes too far - saying Kelly Holmes looked like a man! I take it she was in the bottom two?
Heatherbelle
Jan 26 2006, 06:27 AM
No, she wasn't! It was the guy from the bill that danced to Rock DJ! Which was a shock, as I'd quite enjoyed it.
Robin Cousins is cool.

Really? Huh! He was kinda cute, with his glasses on.

Well, Harry Hill said it this week: ""Stop stealing our shows BBC! Though to be fair, we did steal Dancing On Ice." (his show is the funniest on TV just now).
I'm not fully into this show, but it's watchable. Liked JB's routine, not his fringed cowboy outfit.

Loved the routine, was not convinced by the outfit, winced when they fell, but was impressed when they just carried on.
I've had the song in my brain every since.
I know what you mean about not being fully in - I'm not watching the 'behind the scenes' stuff in the same way I watch SCD:ITT
But, for something fun on a saturday evening, its great.
And I'm cheering m'boy JB all the way!

Well, I finally got to watch last saturdays programme (thanks Pandrea!)
I'm am *still* hacked off that John had to go - he did as he was asked, and got penalised for it.
The fact that all four on the ice were in tears at then end was rather sweet, as was the rather shocked Andi Peter's reaction that they cut too.
I can think of several people that deserved to be in the bottom two, and neither were John and Stefan.
Gaynor and Bonnie are my picks now - Gaynor really seems to be improving.

Feb 9 2006, 09:32 PM
Ah, this show is dead to me. I certainly think Bonnie should win (maybe Sean second?), but I don't really care anymore. Travesty!
Heatherbelle
Feb 10 2006, 05:00 AM
See, I thought Sean was really weak this week, and should have been in the bottom (along with Kelly or David)
Gaynor might be able to pull Bolero off, she's definetely improving. Bonnie's better though
I thought the whole point of having the judges set up was to stop stupid things like that happening!
It wasn't my favourite routine of his, but he'd done as he was asked, and toned things down, to then get penalised for it sucks!
I'm not sure I'll watch anymore. Travesty, through and through
Pandrea
Feb 10 2006, 08:03 AM
Yeah. I'll watch if I happen to be around, but I'm not making any great efforts. The format doesn't really work for me and JB really cheered things up. Probably tune in to see the Bolero final, though - I'd rather see Torvill & Dean do it again, mind.

Now I wonder whether to bother getting my hands on the JB episodes at all. What's your advice?
Pandrea
Feb 10 2006, 11:30 AM
Well, if you want to see him skate - and he IS very good and fun to watch - go ahead. I'm not sure I'd recommend the rest of the show, particularly as you most likely won't know many of the contestants (hell, I don't know most of them). There isn't much in the way of very interesting background coverage or insightful interviews, so if you can find just his sequences without having to get the rest, maybe do that.
Claudia
Feb 10 2006, 12:32 PM
Okay, I'll check it out. Maybe I'll even decide to watch more for Bonnie--anything's possible. :)
Heatherbelle
Feb 10 2006, 03:16 PM
Yeah, I'd recommned her routines as well.
Pandrea -we've got a video somewhere on Torville & Dean, the old LWT one I think - we'll have to watch it the next time you're down!
I watched the finale last night and was kicking myself that I didn't make more of an effort to tune in the past 8 weeks.
I was kicking myself even more when I realised that I missed seeing Torvill and Dean performing the Bolero. Thank goodness for Sunday morning repeats. Even if it was a "40 something version" of it, it was still awesome to watch.

I had stopped watching but tuned back in for the finale just for Bolero. T&D still have it! As for the contestants, I greatly enjoyed laughing at the ridiculous, but still sort of awesome, flying over the ice routines.

Finally got a chance to see the final! We had to tape it, as we were getting ready for the housewarming BBQ all day saturday.
Loved T&D, as per usual. Bolero is still fab.
The flying was a bit OTT wasn't it? Liked Bonnie's routine though.
I was happy with the overall result - I really think Gaynor deserved it. Their's was certainly the best 'Bolero' of the two. I'd have been interested to see Bonnie's routine too.
Still bitter JB didn't get further (i.e. to the final!). I did chuckle when he came on with the rest of the contestants and was the first to do more than just skate in a straight line...
