Okay, I had a look and I did a search and I couldn't find anything on Friday Night Lights.
My god, I love this show. BJC and NatCat will join me in this, I'm sure. It is an awesome show. The writing is tight, the characters are well drawn. And then, then there's two of the mains, played by Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton who play Coach and Tami Taylor. They are this middle class, non-political, Jed and Abbey. They are this couple that love and support each other, they follow their dreams and support each other.
Set in Dillon, Texas. It's a show about a small town and it's devotion to high school football. How it consumes the town and the people. Coach Taylor, is obviously the coach of the team, he has to deal with the pressures of producing a State Championship winning team whilst dealing with the opinions of the community, dealing with the young men in the team.
There are so many little moments in the show, which is shot documentary - you feel as though you are there, not observing but actually involved. The moments are funny, poignant, sad and happy.
The show deals with steriod abuse, paraplegia, love, family, commitment, the aged, responsibility, community expectations, school, boyfriends, girlfriends, betrayal and the list goes on.
Watch it. It's not all about football.
Sorry, I've just received my DVDs and I remember how much I love it.
I think we were talking about it in the other TV thread, but I think now that we have a second season it deserves its own thread.
Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it, FNL was my number 1 top new show this year, above everything else.
For anyone that loves TV, you will love this show. Plus, the DVD is currently selling for $20. What more could you want?
Okay, here's something else if you wanted it - Snuffy does the music for the show and the featured artist is a Texan instrumental group called Explosions In the Sky who are brilliant.
If you've read the book or seen the Billy Bob movie, then don't let them influence your decision to watch the show - there are some similarities, but like libbylou said, its not all about football.

Not necessarily. I think it's schmaltzy.

Oh, Pandrea, you're breaking my heart. I'm with BJC. It was my favorite show last year. The relationship between Coach Carter and Mrs. Coach absolutely make this show. However, I do appreciate the fact that they paralyzed the first-string quarterback and then didn't relegate him to a recurring character. I think they're doing a great job of showing the difficulty of incorporating this injury into his life.
Plus, I can't tell you how many times I've been able to incorporate "She had a blanket." into my everyday conversation. I give the person a meaningful glance and then crack up because I'm easily amused. It also helps you find out who your fellow FNL fans are.

Sorry guys. I haven't watched much of it so maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed awfully generic to me. Like Brothers And Sisters or the less manic parts of Desperate Housewives.

I suppose it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's just that I love it so much, I want everyone else to love it, too.

They seem to agree. They have a money-back guarantee on the DVD box set, so between that and the couple fervent fans here, I took a chance on it last night.

Ooooo...well done Claudia, can't wait to read what you think about it.
I watched Blinders last night, that powderpuff game was just hysterical.

I'm a fan, not much else to day. It's watchable if for nothing else but the eye candy.

Yeah, there's the one storyline (and I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about) that is verrrrryyyy iffy to me. It seems completely out of character for the show. So, I'm a little apprehensive about how that's going to play out. Otherwise, I liked what I saw.

I wasn't happy with turn in the Landry/Tyra storyline, I dunno I think its too *dark* for a show like FNL. I would have been happier if Landry just beat the crap outta the guy and became Tyra's hero. As for Julie, well, someone had a personality removal over the summer didn't they. Didn't like that much either, Matt deserves better. Still totally adore Mr and Mrs Coach, Connie Britton just broke my heart. I think I recognise the new coach from Twin Peaks.
