I'm sorry, but was I the only one who laughed when little Lex Luthor was found in the cornfield with only a wisp of red hair left?
Just me then, huh?
Ginni

No, not just you.
And he's Jack! From Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane before Zoe became the ruler of the world and forced everyone else to change their names to "dot".
oh, and while I remember, why is he bald? I mean, what's the purpose, beyond giving the makeup department something interesting to do?

So it turns out meteorites give the closest shave ever.
It's just necessary to the character, Ginni. In [at least one storyline from the many varied Superman continuities of] the comic books Lex has a grudge against Superman for causing his hair loss (though it was something chemical in that storyline). Regardless, he *has* to be bald. Lex with hair would be like Superman being blond, or something.
I am so torn. Roswell, I hardly knew ye!

Did you know Lex originally was drawn bald in the comics by accident? An artist was supposed to draw a bald security guard and got confused. Some later artists followed suit, so they made a lore for the baldness and voila. Bald Lex.
And it's not doing anything interesting for the makeup department. That kid is actually shaving his head for the show.

But.... but... in the Lois and Clark series???
*gasp*
You mean that L&C isn't true to the Superman series? ####.

But it had Dean Cain. Mmm, Dean Cain.
I can't decide if I think the new SupaMan is cute or not, yet. Sometimes last night he looked all sweet, and other times he looked like an alien.
Lex was kinda cute though.

As Neo put it, he's like Verve and Elijah Wood had a love child. (supaboy, that is)
Ditch the hairdo and he's a hotty - I'm convinced.

Dude he is sooo my new taller, stronger Verve. He's just as dumb, just as cute, and the hair is just as bad. I refuse to see the resemblance to Elija or Kerr Smith #### it.
I was confused by Lex. Didn't he say he was like 9 or something when he got BIC-ed by the meteor? And Lana was 3? So is Lex supposed to be like 6 years older than them?
BTW, "Hi". I also go by the name of Ms.Piggy and Nortious Piggy.
Thanks Ginni for introducing me to this alternative world. Hee.

OK, they even stole the X-Files creeeeepy music. And the guy who played the brain eating kid. But Clark is still cute. And dumb. And has bad hair. All is good in the world.

I must start watching it properly. He's cute, but they must do something about the hair.

Oh man. I'm so totally in love with Clark. I even love the hair. He's purdy.
It was an okay episode. The only one of the night that didn't depress me.

This is turning out to be my first slash pairing since Blake and Avon, and that's like 15 years there (US airings, yo).
Lex is just fascinated with Clark, isn't he? Why??? Why does he want for Clark what Clark wants for himself? IS he just learning how to manipulate people so he can be a supervillain? Or is he being all selfless-lovey towards his crush?
Clark is sufficiently attractive (what puppydog eyes!) that it doesn't take much for me to understand someone being interested in him. And Lex is well-written and -acted enough to carry off the rest of it. Oooh, HoYay!

Oct 24 2001, 09:06 AM
You know they have those ads showcasing the WB kids? There's one with the Clark kid and his hair is longer. It's actually not a very attractive hair do, but ####, something about it makes me all tingly. Must find screen cap... Oh wait. I can make my own now! :)

Better than Roswell? Seriously? 'Cause Roswell is some awful good cheeeez. Should I be giving Smallville a chance? I don't have the 'tape one, watch the other' option, so it's kinda an either or with me. Just need to make a decision.
godam
Oct 24 2001, 09:36 PM
Well, it's not like the plots are so involved in either that you can't decide on a week to week basis. Roswell is cheesier, but I can't look at Max's ears anymore. The Snapple bit pushed me over the edge.
Notorious PIG
Oct 25 2001, 09:34 AM
I am taping Roswell but haven't even bothered to watch it yet. I'm not feeling the Mikey G lust no more, but I am feeling the Clark luv. He's my new Verve yo!
And I also can't stand the Max-Liz star crossed lovers BS. But then again there are many Smallville-Roswell similarities:
1) Dark haired alien royalty with super powers falls on earth
2) As teen falls in luv with a skinny dark haired girl who dates a football player
3) Can not be with girl because, well, he's an alien!
But you know, Lana is cute Lizbot is not. Lana does not annoy Lizbot does. Clark is a hottie, KingPeck is a leathery old man.
In other words, yes, ophy. You should give Smallville a try.
Edited to add:
The WB affiliates are rerunning Smallville premiere and the second episode on either Sat or Sun for people who missed it:

Ah, because of the missing minutes at the end of the premiere!
I didn't even realize, because I was watching it live. But I had no idea in advance that they were doing that (unlike Alias). I wasn't taping, but now I can!

I didn't realize it was gonna go over and I was recording it on my computer. I was watching it on TV so I could periodically switch to Roswell (I was recording Roswell on the VCR). It was 9:58 and I'm like wait, is this a two parter? Checked the digit cable info and was like "CRAP!" and ran to my computer to add 10 minutes to the tuner record but I still missed about a minute of it. Now I can properly record all of it. Yippie!

Hmmmm . . . I will ponder muchly on what y'all have said and try to watch it this weekend when they do both eps in a row. Loyalty to bad tv is one of my tragic flaws (hence the continuation of my DC fandom), so I might not be able to give up Roswell completely. Plus, you know, Isabel has nice ta-tas.
Honestly, Clark does nothing much for me, but Lex is a hottie and a half. Gotta have some eye candy, or there really isn't any point. Bo Duke would certainly qualify . . .

I have a crush on him too. And it's funny that you say he shaves his head for the role. I was all ready to come in here and complain that his bald cap looks fake and they should make him shave. i guess it's just weird to see a bald, young guy.

I'm so used to it. I've said in AIM chats that I dated a cancer patient when I was in high school, so bald guys really do it for me now. I know, I know. But baldies need love, too. I think it's his lack of eyebrows that make him look weird, but...uhm, I like that too. Sigh. Help + Needed = Me. No + One = Surprised.

Oh, god. Yeeg. I cannot watch DC episodes properly now. I'm glad the Flash is dead, if only so that I'll stop having flashes of pain every time one of them makes a reference to "the closet."
Wow, I've only sorta seen a couple of Smallville's, but the slash was the first thing I noticed. Lex is sorta like Lindsey, or Pre-Schmoop Spike. He just makes sparkage with all sorts of folks. What would be fun is if they actually played it as a little crush. No reason it couldn't be, and it would make their eventual animosity hurt more.

OK so it seems her cuteness in controversial. I think she's cute. She looks like a young Catherine Zeta-Jones; I think they have similar eyes and flatish face.
I luvluvluv that she's much shorter than Clark. I'm a lot shorter than Kermie so I like to see that (he calls me chin rest). And it's all about me.

He's a cutie, even if he is a bit S-L-O-W. It's a good thing he has Chloe to figure shit out for him.
I like that he's not flying around in red spandex. But is it a requirement for all WB stars to have bad hair? Well except for Lex, since he's bald and it works for him.
Brooding Soul
Nov 2 2001, 02:42 PM

Actually, it has been stated that due to cliche and a low budget, they will not be having Clark fly. Too bad, because I bet his ass looks spectacular in some tights.

Lex is just an awesome character. Joev was telling me how Pa Kent did the right thing instinctively, and I buy it. Because while Lex isn't evil, he *would* have insinuated himself into their lives, if they'd taken the deal, and that would have changed the wholesome Kent family and Kent farm in subtle ways.
Mmmm, insinuating Lex....
