Hmm, I thought we had an etiquette topic here but can't seem to find it.

I am attending one of these "buy stuff so I get a commission" parties - you know like tupperware, jewelry, etc. - next week. My etiquette question is: Is it appropriate to show up empty handed? Normally I wouldn't dream of going to a party without a bottle of wine or a snack - but I imagine it will be expected that I buy something and that negates my responsibility to bring something. What do you all think?

I can't cite a source, but my gut says you don't need to bring anything, although if you are close with the host it would be nice. You're also not obligated to buy, though.

Yeah, I think that counts as a business enterprise. You're more customer than guest.

Are you going because you genuinely might want to buy whatever it is, or more because you want to support the host? If the latter, I'd take a bottle of wine (make sure to have some!), if the former probably not.
