I don't like football much, and probably won't watch the Superbowl, so I don't have much to say about it. But it's like a big Current Event.
When I was a kid my parents always had big Super Bowl parties, and I got to play the beer wench. So I have some sentimental value invested in the day, I suppose.
Anyone doing any interesting Super Bowl related activities? Fond memories to share?

I'm not a Superbowl person either, although I do have one sports nut friend back home who always throws an all-female Superbowl party. Me, I prefer the traditional Superbowl for women (and gay men): the Oscars.
I was in the supermarket yesterday, and I noticed an amusing pre-game phenomenon: All these clueless men who had clearly never gone shopping before, scrounging for refreshments for their Superbowl parties. They were all "How does this scanner thing work? Does each beer in the six-pack count as an item?"

I went to my dad's to watch The Godfather, but somehow it got late and we decided to just flip on the SuperBowl. We're all from Massachusetts, so we were pulling for the Patriots. Go Patriots! Pretty cool if they actually win, but I'm not losing sleep.

I tuned in for the pre-show entertainment and was not disappointed. It started with Barry Manilow, Patti Labelle and Wynonna Judd singing "My Country Tis of Thee" while hundreds of little girls dressed in red, white and blue togas with matching Statue of Liberty crowns marched across the field. Then, towards the end of the song, a bunch of little boys dressed as soldiers and doctors marched across the field pulling a Liberty Bell and as the song ended, one little soldier boy struck the bell.
I tell you, whoever thinks up these things is not getting paid enough money.
Oh, the game? Eh, football kind of bores me but I'm glad the Patriots won. They had me when, instead of coming out to individual introductions, they took the field en masse.

So, what were the ads like? Very disappointed to find that the ad breaks in Canada are Canadian. I mean, it makes sense, but everyone I know watches the Super Bowl for the ads and the half-time, show, not the actual footy. I wanted to see the one that linked people who take illegal drugs with terrorism.
