COLLEGE PROFESSOR TEACHES REALITY TELEVISION
IN FILM THEORY COURSE
Press Statement
For Immediate Release
LOS ANGELES, June 15, 2004 – Professor Richard Walsh will be teaching Reality TV instead of film in his film theory course again this fall. A tenured faculty member at Fordman College, Walsh began teaching the course to undergraduate and graduate students last spring.
“Reality television is the future and most film departments are stuck in the past,” Walsh states. “What my students learn is that for every Kubrick of yesterday there are a dozen Kutchers today,” Walsh argues referring to the creators of Punk’d and Doctor Strangelove respectively, “these are the auteurs of this generation.”
Walsh, who is available for television appearances as well as print and on-line interviews, has been featured on numerous television debate shows including Crossfire, Hardball and the upcoming Crossballs. Professor Walsh is the author of the The Semiotics of Fear Factor (Fordman Press, scheduled release 2005).
